Gavin Weise, IFES Deputy Director for Europe and Asia, moderated a panel on domestic developments in Ukraine at "20 Years of Ukraine's Independence," an event held at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on November 15. The discussion focused on the draft nongovernmental organization and parliamentary election law, media freedoms, rule of law, and the current administration’s reform agenda.

Almost two years into President Viktor Yanukovych’s administration, which officially ended the Orange leadership in Ukraine, Ukrainians continue to struggle under sluggish economic growth, deep-seated corruption and regional tensions.

In light of Ukraine’s 20 years of independence, the Carnegie Ukraine Program brought together a distinguished group of experts, activists and officials from Kyiv, Moscow, Brussels and Washington to discuss issues impacting the country.
